Coach Mark Loureiro Mark Loureiro heads one of the top small school programs in the state of California. His Escalon Cougars can be found year after year ranked in the top 5 of the golden state. Coach Loureiro returned to his alma mater in 1986 where he became the head sophomore coach and in 1989 took over the head varsity job. Since 1989 the Cougars have compiled an overall record of 150 – 28. The Cougars have won 7 Trans Valley League titles but more impressive; they have won 7 C.I.F. Section Championships. During his 15 years at the helm, the Cougars have also been runner-ups in the C.I.F. 5 times. Coach Loureiro’s ’93 and ’96 teams won Cal-High State Titles. He and his team were labeled the Coach and Team of the Decade for the 90’s. Loureiro’s teams have been running the Wing-T since 1986 and his teams have been attending the Golden State Wing-T Camps since 1987. Last year’s team shattered almost all offensive records: (460 total points), (4,247 yards rushing), (7.7 yards per play), (390 avg. yards per game). His Cougars make a living running the football from every formation using their smash-mouth style. Coach Loureiro is a frequent speaker on the West Coast on many different topics regarding the Wing-T offense. The small town community of Escalon is a perfect complement to Loureiro and his football program. Every Friday night the town fills the home stands or takes to the road to support their beloved Cougars. Several generations of Cougar alumni follow the program with great pride and enthusiasm.
Coach Loureiro and his wife, Lisa, are parents of three children: Brianna
(23), Lindsie (17) and Jake (15). |
